Group-Rate Health Insurance for Creators

Happy American Thanksgiving!

Here’s one huge thing I’m grateful for: my health insurance.

My wife works for a major corporation, so my daughter and I get the benefit of a group health insurance rate on amazing coverage.

The first time I was a solopreneur, my wife also was, and we didn’t have a group rate. We got our insurance through Covered California (Affordable Care Act), and while I’m glad we had it, it was a far cry from the incredible corporate coverage I had at WME.

At the time, I was dealing with chronic head and neck pain from a martial arts injury, and I spent over $20,000 a year out of pocket on in-network treatment. That’s unfathomable to some, but it’s the reality of being a solopreneur or small-business-owner in America.

Since she got her corporate job, and group health insurance, our ability to fund medical challenges has transformed our lives. Her insurance plan covered 3 years of fertility treatment and reduced the birthing cost from up to $27,326 in Los Angeles to less than $5,000 - basically, it made it possible for us to become parents while I was building my business.

I’m telling you all of this because I’ve lived several lives, had several types of health insurance, and I firmly believe Creators deserve access to healthcare that’s every bit as good and affordable as corporate employees.

That’s why I’ve joined Essentl, a new Creator health insurance and HR benefits company, as an Advisor.

Essentl is founded by Crystal and Chris Jackson - hugely successful Creators (@the.real.mrs.poindexter) as well as long-time tech executives. Crystal even ran data analytics for Public Health for the State of California (the state with the best response, from a public health perspective) during COVID.

They’re partnering with the nation’s biggest insurance providers to provide group coverage rates (along with a number of other HR-type benefits) to individual Creators and solopreneurs like you.

I believe a product like this could fundamentally transform the lives of millions of people who have or aspire to full-time solopreneurship. If you’re looking for corporate-quality health insurance with a lower monthly premium, sign up for the waitlist now to get notified when they go live.

TikTok just put IG in its place

I did a video about this on LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube - I’m posting shorts daily now, so follow me wherever you hang out!

Being able to put links in your posts is the holy grail of social commerce.

It’s partly why brands love YouTube so much - because you can put a link in the video description and then there’s no need to go to the link in bio, the link is right there in the same piece of content.

Traditional social platform thinking dictates that they want to keep users in the platform, so heaven forbid that they let Creators include brand links to send users away…unless the brand PAYS for that opportunity by boosting the post.

If TikTok rolls out in-post links widely, it could fundamentally change the game for how Creators make money. In-post links will almost certainly drive higher conversion rates for marketers, thus allowing TikTok to eat Instagram’s lunch by diverting influencer marketing dollars - and the ad dollars that frequently accompany them - away from Meta and towards TikTok.

All while getting Creators paid more. I approve!
