It’s lonely being a content Creator - especially early on. When you’re getting started, it’s just you - you spend 90% of your time alone, make all the decisions on what to do, and have to hunt for every opportunity that enables you to keep going.

That’s a heavy burden - but a great community can help lighten the load.

The way I see it, there are 3 major benefits to community. We’ll get into them below.

But first, a sponsor!

The #1 Tax Mistake Made By Creators

Fact: If you’re not using a Creator-specific accountant, you’re probably overpaying in taxes.

Why? Traditional accountants don’t know the Creator Economy. Typically, Creators can write off a lot more than regular businesses, which means you need a financial ally who understands Creators.

Don’t leave money on the table–maximize your deductions and hire DeCypher Financials (it will pay for itself).

In the past few years, they’ve saved Creators over $2.7 million on taxes, an average of $25k per Creator. Think of what you could do with that!

(Don’t just take my word for it–check out their deep list of Creators they’ve helped save $$$).

Human interaction is healthy

The thing I miss most about working in an office is people - and science says that shouldn’t be surprising.

According to the 85-year-long study Harvard Study of Adult Development, the longest study on happiness every conducted, relationships with co-workers are a driving factor in health, happiness, and longevity. For example, only 20% of people have a “work bestie”, but those 20% "were better performers on the job,” and “were much less likely to leave their job for another one because they had a friend at work,” according to Dr. Robert Waldinger, who wrote the book on the study.

In the absence of coworkers (or if you feel weird being friends with people who work for you), a community of peers can provide a rock-solid foundation of human relationships to help drive your happiness and success.

Peers make great sounding boards

I actually deleted this example post, so here it is from my archive…

The fun and challenging thing about being a Creator is that much of what you’re dealing with is new.

For example, I’ve been a dealmaker and executive for most of my career - but I’ve never been an operations guy. Building out a system for tracking my contacts, opportunities, tasks, content ideas, etc. was a totally new challenge for me.

Fortunately, I have a strong community of Creators and entrepreneurs to lean on. It wasn’t just a referral that mattered - it was being able to ask multiple peers who have been there what worked for them, what I wasn’t thinking about, what I should look out for, etc.

A community of peers on the same journey as you means you’re likely to know people who have gone through what you’re going through, and to be able to get the benefit of their experiences!

Expand your luck surface area

You’ve probably heard the phrase “make your own luck”; it’s a much older version of the modern business management concept of “luck surface area”.

Luck surface area describes how likely you are to get lucky, and you can expand it two ways:

  • Do more of the right stuff

  • Tell more of the right people about the stuff you’re doing

Communities are a great way to expand your luck surface area because you expand your network. The more active you are in a community, the more you get in front of other community members, and the more those community members may end up helping you get lucky.

I’ll give you an example.

A Creator I interviewed for Creator Logic stayed in touch with me. We chatted via text, and had drinks at VidCon. I thought that was going to be it, but then I ran into him late at night in the lobby of my VidCon hotel. We had another drink and he introduced me to a founder whose product he was using. That founder ended up becoming a $127,000 client.

How did I get that lucky?

  • I started a newsletter, interviewed this Creator, and went to VidCon (did more stuff)

  • I kept in touch, had drinks with him, and told him about my business (told the right people)

If I had done any number of things differently, he might not have made the connection. I wouldn’t have gotten lucky.

Now imagine being able to do that with hundreds of your peers…that’s what a community can enable.

As you probably know by now, I’m launching a community!

It’s called The $100k Creators Club, and it’s for Creators and solopreneurs transitioning from making content to making money so we can reach $100,000 in annual income, meet our financial goals, and self-actualize our happiest, most creative selves.

I’m designing The $100k Creators Club around the three benefits listed above, with an offering that includes:

  • Opt-in, AI-based peer-to-peer matching and connection based on interests (so make sure to fill out your profile with your interests, content verticals, genres, social links, etc.)

  • Live chat for virtual co-working - so we’re not alone all day!

  • ISO (”In Search Of”) feed for members seeking any sort of help, feedback, resources, etc.

    • The wisdom of the group can help us accelerate each other!

  • Opportunity feed to share inbound opportunities that aren’t the right fit

    • Share inbound opportunities you’re not taking, as someone else may find it valuable - and in doing so, build up karma to find good fit opportunities for you as well

  • Community sharing of tactical learnings in a centralized feed

    • We'll all share things we tried, what worked, what didn’t, and why

  • Post sharing feed for engagement

    • Anyone can post their recent posts to for other members to see and engage

    • Engagement helps growth, growth amplifies earnings

  • IRL meetups at top Creator Economy events - E.g. VidCon

We’ll also have programming to increase your luck surface area that includes:

  • Bi-Weekly fireside chats featuring tactical deep dives and Q&A on how to maximize earnings through various monetization strategies and platforms

    • Creators making over $100k with fewer than 100k followers

    • Execs from monetization companies (e.g. UGC marketplaces, TikTok Shop, etc.)

    • Experts on specific tactics (e.g. brand deals, membership, etc.)

  • Weekly group mentoring & office hours with Avi (and surprise guests) for members to share challenges, receive insights, and learn from other members’ experiences

  • Monthly monetization themes to anchor programming and member efforts

    • E.g. How to leverage LinkedIn, Tactics for outbound brand deals, Using content to drive a services business, etc.

  • Group challenges to make progress on revenue growth together

    • E.g. Send 10 outbound pitches, make a new lead magnet, fill out your profile on a marketplace, etc.

I’ll be opening discounted subscriptions to the waitlist later this week, so sign up now for the best pricing:
