Rachel Brotman aka The Carboholic may have the sweetest Creator niche out there - she visits local bakeries and restaurants around NYC, samples their nummies, and posts reviews on social.
What a delectable dream job!
When Rachel started creating, she was a teacher with a maximum potential salary of $60,000…in the most expensive city in America.
Today, she’s a full-time Creator making well over $100,000 - far more than she could have ever dreamed of making in her previous life.
What can you take away from her approach? One big thing….
Let’s get into it!
But first, we’ve got some community events coming up!

When Rachel made the leap to full-time, she needed to bridge the gap created by dropping her teaching salary as she built her content revenue.
Providing her social media expertise as a service to the same types of companies that wanted to pay her for content was a clever solution.
I took on a lot of social media management jobs to create a steady source of revenue and income. I was doing social media content creation and posting for a supermarket chain outside the city, a bakery and a dumpling shop in the city…At one point I had five clients whose social media I was running.
Services are a way to start when making money as a Creator because
You’re probably skilled enough at something that people or companies would hire you to do it at a reasonable hourly rate
Consulting never takes as much time as you or your client assume, and
You’ve got a huge advantage at the hardest part of consulting - client acquisition - because your social content will both bring clients to you and make prospects easier to close!
All of these clients came through connections I made through The Carboholic. Each one was about 10 hours of work per month. Most came to me directly - they were places I had featured on The Carboholic who reached out asking if I did social media work for other brands. Only one, a bakery I frequently posted about, was different - I saw their job listing and reached out to them. The whole thing happened really naturally.
Today, 90% of Rachel’s income comes from brand deals - 97% of which are inbound - and she is proudly making well into the six figures from those brands.
Just two years ago, though, a substantial portion of her income came from providing social media and consulting services.
There are actually TWO lessons to take here.
You should probably consider starting your Creator journey by providing services to the people who follow you.
What you’re doing to monetize today doesn’t have to be what you do to monetize tomorrow It’s OK to do things now that you don’t want to do in the future if those things help you to get where you want to be.
As long as you’re paying the bills while doing what you love…
What’s the difference?
