Patreon Helps Creators Adjust to Apple App Store Fees
Creator subscription platform tries to soften the blow of the higher rate

Patreon has decided to comply with Apple’s requirement to use Apple’s in-app purchase system for all iOS transactions, which will mean that all new Patreon memberships purchased in the Patreon iOS app (plus anything bought in a Creator’s Patreon shop) will be subject to Apple’s 30% fee.
Apple requires all apps on their App Store to use their native payment system for purchases, so Patreon is left without much of a choice if they want to remain available on iOS devices.
But Creators take heart - Patreon has built a tool that automatically increases Creator prices in the iOS app to offset the cost of Apple’s fee, ensuring that Patreon Creators earn at least the same amount per membership as they would on non-iOS platforms.
Creators now have the choice of toggling on the automatic price-increase tool, or keeping prices as-is, paying the 30% fee from their earnings. Patreon had previously used third-party payment processors, which kept their users from being required to absorb Apple’s 30% fee.
Avi’s takeaway: I dealt with this while building out my own membership community and ultimately opted for a platform that is web-based to avoid having to charge members more. I’ve heard from membership operators that Apple does drive significant subscriptions, especially on Patreon, so that’s the tradeoff.
Patreon has invested a ton in improving the content consumption experience in their app, so especially for lower-priced content-based memberships (e.g. extra videos or bonus episodes of a podcast for $5-$25 a month), offering through Patreon and charging more on Apple subscriptions could be the best option to get your member base as big as possible.
Connection Card Game Creator Hiring Creative Director and Content Lead
Help families connect via this meaningful job opportunity
Parents Are Human is a tabletop card game business looking to hire a fellow Creator to lead their video content strategy. You’ll be working directly with the founder Joseph to create authentic, UGC-style content that helps families connect more deeply.

This is a great position for entrepreneurial-minded Creators who love collaborating and who are passionate about making a meaningful impact. Plus, you’ll have the freedom to shape and scale the company’s content strategy with their full support.
Expected comp is $60k-$100k combo of salary and performance (performance component is uncapped, based on amount of content delivered.) And while they’re ideally looking for someone SF-based, remote work is definitely on the table.
