Microinfluencers get 45% of all deals

(2 min read) Breaking down the billion-dollar brand opportunity for smaller Creators, and why you should do more brand deals

I have a new goal - cross $140,000 in net brand revenue this year.

  • I’m already at roughly $70,000, but don’t have any more closed deals.

  • I’m going to be pitching 2-3 event sponsorships (including my Los Angeles Creator Holiday Party - RSVP here!)

  • I also have 3-4 brands in conversation for LinkedIn sponsorships.

  • As Creator Logic grows, my sponsor fees will increase.

I’m basically saying I want to double my aggregate Q1-Q3 sponsor revenue in Q4. That sounds outrageous, but 3 things make me feel like it’s doable:

  • There’s a TON of brand money out there - $3.5B is being spent on nano- and micro-influencers in the US alone in 2024

  • My holiday parties are going to be a lot of effort, but could generate $30k+ in gross profit to me (after costs + split with my production partners)

  • I now have frameworks and templates for brand outreach, pitching, packaging, negotiation, and relationship-management!

In today’s Resources, I will

  • Break down the size of the brand deal opportunity for smaller Creators and link to the resources and frameworks I’m using

  • Cover some new updates from YouTube that are fantastic for smaller (<500k subs) Creators.

  • Show you a new Instagram feature that will literally tell you how to make your posts perform better!

But first, TrovaTrip is back as our sponsor!

Travel the world and earn $5k-$30k

I'm obsessed with helping you find new ways to make money. That’s why I write this newsletter, and why I’m stoked that TrovaTrip is sponsoring us today.

You don’t need a million followers to make some real money. You just need a community of people who’d jump to travel with you.

Here’s the math:

TrovaTrip has helped 700 creators book over 1,500 trips to 50+ countries, including Indonesia, Bali, Morocco, and Greece.

  • That’s an average of 2+ trips per Creator (so we know it’s a great experience)

  • Trova handles all the logistics, booking, vetting, and safety

  • $5k-$30k is real money for doing something other people would pay to do

I’ll admit that it’s not always about the money - and you’ll get something even more special:

The most valuable experience I’ve had for building memories, sharing moments, and deepening relationships with my audience."

- @thekatieduke (157k followers)

If you want to travel the world, take your audience along for the ride, and generate some revenue while you do, hit up TrovaTrip.

“We must get out and explore this beautiful planet”

Is $5k - $30k a significant amount of money to you?

YouTube is supporting smaller Creators

YouTube Shorts doesn’t pay very much - we all know that…but I just discovered this week that YouTube Shorts has a feature that lets you redirect to long-form videos. Given lots of people complain about Shorts cannibalizing long-form views, it surprised me that such a valuable feature exists.

We also know that YouTube’s algorithm has a snowball effect - big Creators get suggested more and thus get bigger - leaving smaller Creators out in the cold.

YouTube apparently wants to remedy this. They just announced a new feature called Hype that will let viewers boost smaller (<500k subs) Creators in the algorithm and - eventually - get those Creators paid!

This might be the most exciting thing I’ve seen from YouTube since they opened AdSense up to everyone in the early 2010s. I can’t wait to see what it does for millions of small Creators making great content and struggling to get discovered.

You should do more brand deals

How much will you earn this year from brand deals?

Influencer marketing spend is $24 billion globally, $8 billion in the US.

Nano- and microinfluencers (1,000 - 50,000 followers) will get 45% of that (in the US) - about $3.7 billion.

That’s enough for every single Creator Logic reader to make nearly $100,000.

I’m technically a “microinfluencer”, but I am tracking to make well over $100,000 from brand deals by the end of this year. If I can do it in my little niche of Creator monetization, you can do it in whatever niche you’re in. You just need the tools and process - there’s a lot of money out there if you know how to get it.

If you’re not sure where to start, I really recommend Justin’s Brand Deal Wizard course - I wrote about a key unlock (how to improve pitches to brands) earlier this week. The course will pay for itself in just one deal; I’m already profitable, and I just graduated.

Instagram launched “best practices” to help smaller Creators’ perform better

Social platforms don’t generally tell you when you’re doing things right and what you can do better, unless you’re a big or special Creator with a partner manager that responds to your frantic texts in the middle of the night (sorry, Cayman).

Instagram just bucked the trend, launching a sort-of dashboard that lets you see how you’re doing and what you can be doing better across high-level categories like Creation, Engagement, Reach, Monetization, and Guidelines.

This kind of insight is usually only available to big Creators, so if you post on Instagram at all, you should take advantage of it.
