Everyone talks about HOW AI is going to change the economy.
Ridiculous productivity
Unprecedented job loss
A few people are going to get very, very rich
What no one seems to be talking about is, "What will the economy eventually look like?”
I have a hypothesis:
It will look like the Creator Economy.
This one’s a bit longer, but I promise you will find it worthwhile and, perhaps, a bit hopeful. Let’s get into it.
P.S. Please, take 90 seconds (I timed it) to tell me about your goals - it’ll help me offer you better content, products, and services to help you succeed.

Why you win the future economy
Canary in the coal mine
Twenty-five years ago, media was concentrated.
A small number of big companies (Hollywood) made all the content (film, TV, music, books), and because there were so few players, every popular property had massive audiences.
If you watched a movie or loved a show, your friends probably did and felt the same.
Then we saw the democratization of content:
Digital media gave everyone distribution.
Smartphones gave everyone production tools.
Social media gave everyone marketing.
Over a relatively short 20 years, media fragmented - shattered like a wine glass knocked over by a toddler.
Hollywood was drinking the wine; we, the Creators, are the toddler.
In 2022, 55% of Gen Z said they watch content that none of their friends watch. I have no doubt that that number is much higher today, and I also believe it's true for older generations as well.
That’s fragmentation, and guess what? This same pattern is happening to everything else.
Knowledge work is first, but product creation and manufacturing will be next.
In the next 5-10 years, you'll be able to design, produce, and ship any product in minutes and sell it to someone who finds your shop through your socials.
Thanks to AI, you’ll be able to do it all by yourself.
Time is a flat circle
Since media is marketing, mass media drove mass marketing to mass markets, enabling companies to sell billions of products to billions of customers.
Why get the same products as your neighbor, from Target, when you can get products:
No one you know has,
Made by your favorite Creator,
Featuring designs from the TikTok series that you watch every day?
This is already happening in a massive way, from handmade crafts on Etsy to print-on-demand merch on Printful and Spring.
We're rapidly moving from an oligopolistic economy - where every industry is controlled by a few large players - to a highly fragmented economy where most people buy stuff marketed to them through community word of mouth.
It just so happens this word-of-mouth is via content rather than conversation.
Sound familiar? It's basically a return to the pre-industrial system, when most people were solopreneurs.
More than 200 years ago, your ancestors probably did something like farming, blacksmithing, herding - basically, running a community-focused small business.
The corporate employment model is actually a relatively recent, Industrial-Age historical outlier.
Freedom through content
Let's be honest about what employment really is - it's a form of economic slavery.
We've been convinced we must get jobs in order to live stable lives, tied down through healthcare and fear of homelessness in a system with no social safety net.
That stability social contract has been broken for 40 years, though, ever since President Reagan fired 11,000+ air traffic controllers who were striking for better wages.
Today, as as companies fire thousands every week, the illusion it left behind is finally dissipating.
It’s my believe that the slaves are being freed - they just haven’t processed it yet.
Soon, the world will look very different. We’re about to enter a Golden Age for small businesses.
In a world with a billion small businesses, what's going to let them get discovered? The abiliy to make content.
In a world with a billion content creators, what's going to let them monetize? The ability to build businesses.
Guess what you're doing as a Creator today?
Both of those things.
The skills you're building right now - creating content, setting up systems, driving audiences to purchase, reaching out for partnerships, learning new platforms - these aren't just "Creator skills."
These are the fundamental business skills of the future economy.
You're already on the other side
Even if you're making small amounts of money right now.
Even if you still need a day job to pay the bills.
Even if your audience is tiny.
You're developing the exact capabilities that will 100x in value over the coming years.
While billions of people are about to lose employment and will need to figure out how to build their own businesses from scratch, you're already there. You're already doing it.
There are up to 300 million Creators in the world, and 5.7 billion internet users.
That puts you, a Creator, in the top ~5% of people worldwide in terms of preparedness for the future economy.
You know how to build an audience from zero.
You understand how different platforms work.
You've figured out how to create content that resonates.
You've learned how to turn attention into revenue.
You're setting yourself up to be in the same position of software engineers in the 90s. Those nerdy social pariahs back then are all super rich today.
The future belongs to the Creators.
Which means the future belongs to YOU!
