Change is the only constant, and that goes for your audience as well.

Over time, you might churn subs and add new ones with different preferences and mindsets…and even if the individual people stay the same, they themselves will change.

If you want to build a successful long-term business, 99% of the time you’ve got to adapt to a changing audiences’ changing tastes.

  • Agents are licensed by the government (in CA, NY, and some other states)

  • Agents can only procure work and negotiate deals; some states, like CA, also limit their commissions to 10%

  • Managers are supposed to guide careers, run the business, and handle everything outside of procuring and negotiating work.

  • Managers technically CAN’T negotiate deals. Big LOL because all influencer managers do.

  • There hasn’t been a lawsuit about this in the influencer space yet (to my knowledge), but lots of traditional celebs like Paris Hilton, Sylvester Stallone, and the Spice Girls have successfully sued their managers for breaking the law.

My advice is not to worry about this unless your rep really screws you over. A good way to avoid that is by not signing with a rep unless they are really chasing you, they show you they’re going to work hard for you, and you ask around and hear good things.

  • Gurus love to talk about building systems and automating busy / boring work.

  • That’s a waste of time and money until you already have a business that’s working.

  • If you don’t have a consistent, repeatable, and growing business yet - don’t build systems.

Instead, test and iterate (i.e. throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks) to figure out what works and then implement systems to help you scale what’s working.
